“Hold high school practices next season without The GolfRings? Not a chance.”
--Coach Mark Polich, So. AZ Coach of the Year, 2001, 2004-2009
Our high school team has been very strong, finishing as runner-up at our State Championship in 2007 and 2008. With three All-State returning starters who had all significantly improved their full swings over the winter, I felt we needed to change our practice focus. In order to get back into the winners circle, I decided we needed to significantly improve our short game. That was the area that was holding us back.
Here was my challenge. First, our players didn't really believe that the short game was that important. Certainly not as important as the full swing. Secondly, I had been told repeated by my players, "practicing our short games is not fun!" So in searching on the web for a way solve both problems, I found Golfring.com.
I purchased the Team Pack and introduced them to the players. The players were skeptical at first but quickly got into it. They were having fun, but also realized how difficult it was to hit their pitch shots or lag putts into the 6' Golf Ring.
Fast forward to the end of the season and the results were amazing. Our team won their Region Tournament as well as the 2009 Arizona State Team Championship. Our top three players improved their season long up and down percentage by 50% from the previous year. And our top player, improved her up and down percentage by nearly 100% compared to last season. This included an astounding up and down percentage of 81% at the State Championship which allowed her to shoot 72-70-142 and win the 2009 Arizona Individual State Championship.
And just yesterday, one of my junior students age 12 came to his weekly lesson and looked very forlorn when I handed him his 7 iron to begin hitting shots. When I asked him what was wrong he lowered his head and quietly said he was hoping that at today's lesson we could play the putting game using the Golf Rings. When I said, "Absolutely", he perked up and nearly sprinted to the putting green while I set up the Golf Rings for a lag putting contest that I had introduced him to in last week's lesson. During the putting "contest", he said that I was the most fun Coach he had ever had.
So whether improvement or having fun is your goal, the Golf Rings are the answer to strengthening your short game and lowering your scores. Hold high school practices next season without the Golf Rings? Not a chance.

NCAA Division III National Champions
My name is Jim Owen and I am the Director of Men’s and Women's Golf at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia. I was one of the first college coaches to recognize the unique practice benefits that the GolfRing could bring to our short game efficiency. The discovery of the GolfRing led to our incredible success this season.
In May of 2009 Oglethorpe won the NCAA Division III National Championship at the PGA Village in Port St. Lucie , Florida. Our team has used the GolfRing for the past year and watched our short game statistics improve dramatically. We have always spent 75% of our practice time on our short game. We just had never had a portable target area as easy to use, easy to carry to practice, or economical as the GolfRing. It can be used in every drill you use around the green. It gives you immediate results you can visualize while you work. The GolfRing provides quantifiable results.
The GolfRing has proven useful as a short game tool for chipping and pitching as well as a great target radius for bunker play. I have found it especially useful as a putting target. The six foot GolfRing radius laid around the cup gives a player a realistic three foot circle around the hole which gives your mind's eye a comfortable target to lag the ball into on long putts.
My team at Oglethorpe led the nation in 2008-09 in Division III in Total Short Game (non sand & sand saves combined) at a spectacular .519. As a team we got up & down 3.5 out of 6.0 opportunities per round per player. We also finished 2nd nationally in Putts on Greens in Regulation at 1.885.
At the 2009 NCAA National Championship our short game success was 96 of 149 (65%) for our five players over the four days of the Championship.
When people asked what led us to victory my answer was always we hit our share of fairways and greens. However, I would add, we separated ourselves from the top of the field with our ability to get the ball up and down around the greens on the unforgiving Pete Dye Course at PGA Village. We were able to get two of three shots up and down when most teams in the top five were getting two of four up & down!! The GolfRing helped us bring home the first NCAA National Championship for Oglethorpe University! Thanks GolfRing.
