PLACING THE SPOT RING

The Spot Ring is designed specifically for chipping and short range pitching.  It is placed between where your ball rests and the hole.  Placement distances are based on a flat green with average speed. You will need to adjust the suggested placement distances according to slope and speed of the green. (For example, chipping to a down-hill slope will result in more roll and will dictate placing the Spot Ring further away from the Target Ring around the hole.  Chipping to an up-hill slope will require placing the Spot Ring closer to the Target Ring because the ball will have less roll).

Clubs have varying degrees of loft which impact how far the ball will roll after it lands on the putting surface.

Club  Spot Ring Placement Distance Expected Roll to Target Ring
Pitching or Lob Wedge  ½ of the distance to the hole ½  distance roll
9 Iron  1/3 of the distance to the hole 2/3 distance roll
8 Iron  ¼ of the distance to the hole ¾ distance roll
7 Iron  1/5 of the distance to the hole 4/5 distance roll

Once you have placed the Spot Ring, chip your ball in the air to land in the Spot Ring.  When properly placed, the ball will come to rest within the Target Ring around the hole.  Adjust distance of Spot Ring as necessary.
